One Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash Involving Dump Truck on Route 183

One person was transported to the hospital after a crash on Route 183 in Wayne Township on Tuesday.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the crash occurred around 5:15pm, near the intersection with Reedsville Road.

Troopers say the crash occurred as Thomas Bowers Sr., 43, of Pottsville was traveling southbound  on Route 183 in an empty dump truck.  Bowers reportedly lost control on the wet roadway when traffic ahead of him slowed.  He crossed the double yellow and was sideways when he struck April Bowman, 38, of Barnesville, who was traveling northbound in a Chevrolet Equinox.

Bowman's vehicle left the roadway and went down an embankment before coming to a stop.

Bowman sustained minor injuries to her hand and was transported to the hospital via Schuylkill EMS to be treated

Both vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene.

Bowers will be cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Also responding to the scene with police were the Summit Station Fire Department, Friedensburg Fire Department, and Womer's Garage.
