Man Locked Up in Schuylkill County Prison for Assaulting Woman in Pottsville

A Philadelphia man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison for assaulting a woman in Pottsville early Monday.

According to Chief of Police John Morrow, on Monday November 21st, 2022, around 1:00am, Pottsville Police were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of West Market Street for a domestic assault. 

The investigation revealed that Matthew Bailey, 34, of Philadelphia, assaulted a female victim with a knife in her residence causing injuries. During the incident, Bailey also punched, slapped, and choked the woman prior to fleeing the scene with her purse, wallet, and phone.

Bailey was located immediately a short distance away with the above items along with the weapon. 

As a result, Corporal Michael Messner charged Matthew Bailey with:

  • aggravated assault
  • strangulation
  • simple assault
  • theft
  • possession of marijuana
  • harassment. 
Bailey was arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer and remanded to the Schuylkill County Prison after he was unable to post $25,000 straight cash bail.
