Joan M. Schwer, 85, of Long Stretch Rd, Pine Grove died peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Providence Place in Pottsville.

Born on May 6, 1937 in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Hoke Allison.

She spent her early years in Pottsville, later graduated from Pine Grove High School in 1955 and then completed business school.

Joan was employed for over 33 years at Ft. Indiantown Gap as a transportation and travel office clerk. After retirement in 1989, Joan and her husband traveled the world.

Joans real passion in life was animals, especially dogs and cats. Along with her many dogs throughout her lifetime, she raised several puppies for the Leader Dogs for the Blind, as well as three litters of puppies for the Leader Dog program. She also raised money through various nonprofit organizations and secondhand stores to pay for spaying and neutering of dogs and cats.

Joan enjoyed staying busy so she never had a free moment. She spent her leisure time traveling, socializing, dancing, shopping, and maintaining her yard. While in retirement, she worked at Hess Catering, cleaned for the AmVets, presented product demos at various stores, and worked the polls during election season. She also was afforded the time to develop her enthusiasm for writing while learning how to use a computer instead of a typewriter. Joan was a newspaper correspondent for various local papers reporting on community meetings and local events.

She also enjoyed spending time with her grandsons by exploring various Pennsylvania events and activities. She was always a smart dresser, very organized, a future planner, and enjoyed her sweets. While Joan was frugal throughout her years, she was exceptionally charitable.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband of almost 39 years, Frederick O. Schwer; and three brothers, Franklin J., Cyril W., and Robert J. Allison.

She is survived by her daughter Alyson and husband Steven Gioia and 2 grandsons, Peter and Alexander Gioia, all of Mullica Hill, NJ.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Noon at the H.L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc Pine Grove with Fr. George Kochuparambil officiating. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 11:00 am until Noon at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

The family would prefer, in lieu of flowers, donations be given to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA) at 912 Killian Hill Road SW Suite 205, Lilburn, GA 30047 or www.lbda.org in her memory.

Steven Haag, 55, of Fiddlers Rd., Pine Grove, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022 in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born on July 26, 1967 in Reading, he was a son of Phyllis Haag Alvarez and the late Luciano Rivera.

Steven was an electrician and worked for Eastern Electric in Lebanon.

Preceding him in death was a brother Lucius Haag.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two sons, Chad Haag and Matthew Haag; a daughter, Laura Haag, all of Reading; two sisters, Tonya Haag of Pine Grove and Lucinda Haag of Hamburg; a brother Gary Haag of Pine Grove; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 at 1:00 P.M. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove,with Pastor Eric Watts officiating. There will be a viewing on Friday, November 25, 2022 from Noon until 1:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hetzel's Cemetery, Pine Grove.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc, 139 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, PA 17963 in his memory.

John C. Wise, Sr.
, 43, of Tyler Dr., Pine Grove, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022, at home.

Born on February 24, 1979 in Pottsville, he was a son of the late John H. and Mary Butler Wise.

He was a 1997 graduate of Pine Grove Area High School.

John was a Truck Driver for Barry Bashore in Bethel.

He was a staff shooter for PSE and helped with the Pine Grove YHEC.

Surviving are his wife of 6 years and together for 22 years, Brenda L. Sechrist Wise; a son John C. Wise, Jr.; a daughter, Jossalin Wise, both of Pine Grove; two sisters, Jennifer Wise of Frackville, Jessica Wise of Pine Grove; a brother, Justin Wise of Pine Grove.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove, with Richard Hoffman officiating. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Schuylkill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Pine Grove.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., 139 S. Tulpehocken St., Pine Grove, PA 17963 in his memory.

Mary L. Sterner
, 90, a lifelong resident of Orwigsburg, passed away at her home on Friday, November 19, 2022.

Mary was born in Orwigsburg on July 12, 1932, a daughter of the late Harold and Alvena (Miller) Ryland.

She was a member of Christ Church in McKeansburg where she spent many hours as a volunteer and a member of the Circle of Friends. She loved her family, going camping, traveling, the beach, hot weather and the family dinners. Mary was retired, having beeb employed in the local garment industry.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Charles L. Sterner in 2018, and by a brother in infancy.

Mary is survived by two children, her son, Kerry and his wife Lori and her daughter, Luann, wife of Danny Boudreaux. Four grandchildren, Crystal Bubeck, wife of Erik; Kyle Sterner; Alexis Sterner and Justin Boudreaux and by one great granddaughter, Karley Bubeck. Mary is also survived by her sister, Doris wife of Bill Mantz.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 11 AM on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at the Christ Church in McKeansburg. A time for visitation will be from 10-11 AM, prior to the service.

Mary will be laid to rest alongside her husband Charles during private family services.

The Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., is serving Mary's family during their time of need.
