HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: North Schuylkill Tops Pine Grove

North Schuylkill came to play as they visited the Pine Grove Cardinals on Friday night.

Both teams entered the game looking to regroup after they were both handed their first losses of the season during Week 2.

After receiving on the kickoff and a failed first drive by North Schuylkill, Luke Miller would make a jumping catch for an interception at the 7:13 mark and that would spark a fire for the Spartan offense. Quarterback Caden Mengel wasted no time, connecting with Colin McGee for a lightning-fast touchdown just six seconds later. Gavin Mentzer's extra point kick put North Schuylkill ahead 7-0, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

In the 2nd quarter, North Schuylkill's Jaxson Chowansky added to their lead with a powerful touchdown run at 11:55, extending their lead to 14-0. Mengel continued to dazzle, finding Luke Miller for yet another touchdown with 7:29 remaining in the quarter, making it 21-0 in favor of North Schuylkill. Mengel's connection with Colin McGee for a remarkable 63-yard pass further widened the gap, leaving the score at 28-0 with just 3:39 left in the 2nd quarter.

Pine Grove hoped to turn the tide, but North Schuylkill's Marcus Heiser had other plans, intercepting the ball with 2:43 left in the 2nd quarter. The North Schuylkill offensive machine wasn't done, as Jaxson Chowansky powered his way to another touchdown with 1:59 remaining, giving them a commanding 35-0 lead at halftime.

As the teams regrouped during the break, North Schuylkill's dominance was undeniable. With the score at 35-0, Pine Grove faced an uphill battle in the second half.

The third quarter proved to be just as challenging for Pine Grove, as Jaxson Chowansky bulldozed his way into the end zone once again with 4:14 left, extending North Schuylkill's lead to a staggering 42-0.

Michael Mogish stepped in as quarterback for North Schuylkill in the 4th quarter. With an 83-yard quarterback keeper, Mogish added the final exclamation point to the night, securing a resounding 48-0 victory for North Schuylkill.

Pine Grove falls to 1-2 for the season, looks to recoup this week, and will play Northern Lehigh at home next Friday.

North Schuylkill now 2-1, goes on the road again next week to face Tamaqua on Thursday evening.
