UPDATE: 911 and Cell Phone Issues Continue in Eastern Pennsylvania

 


Eastern Pennsylvania continues to feel the effects of storms that pushed through the area causing power outages and causing widespread cell phone and 911 issues.

As of late Thursday, we learned that during the storm, 911 issues were reported across multiple counties listed below.  The issues centered around Verizon wireless customers being able to call 911 or non-emergency lines at County Emergency Centers.

  • Luzerne
  • Lycoming
  • Pike
  • Schuylkill
  • Snyder
  • Sullivan
  • Susquehanna
  • Tioga
  • Wayne
  • Wyoming
By Friday morning, the issue was still being worked on according to Schuylkill County Emergency Management.  An update from Interim Emergency Management Coordiner John Blickley was listed as follows as of 9:00am:

Verizon technicians are in the process of repairing a burned fiber cable that has caused this outage. No specific time of restoration has been provided as crews continue the process.

Verizon Wireless calls continue to be answered by Berk County 911 Center. Please try calling 911 first, if unable, please call 610-655-4918. Berks County will relay your request for assistance.

All cell phone users can text emergencies to the Schuylkill County 911 Center at 570-671-2346

Radio Communications have not been affected by this outage and Police, Fire, and EMS agencies continue to respond to emergency calls.
