One Injured in Vulcan Hill Crash near Mahanoy City

One person was injured in a crash on the Vulcan Hill near Mahanoy City on Saturday evening.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the crash occurred around 10:20pm as Jeffrey Deppen, 66, of Coal Township was traveling west on Route 54 and attempted to make an illegal U-Turn in the area of the intersection with Buck Mountain Road in Mahanoy Township.

Deppen reportedly attempted the U-Turn in front of a vehicle that was following him, driven by Mario Pompei, 47, of Mahanoy City.

Pompei struck the rear driver's side of Deppen's Subaru Forester causing it to overturn onto its passenger side.

Both drivers were not injured, but a passenger in Deppen's vehicle, Linda Deppen, was injured and was transported by Shenandoah Ambulance to an area hospital.

Deppen will be cited for the crash.

The West End Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
