St. Clair Man Faces Charges for Tunneling Heist of Tools

A St. Clair man is set to face charges for a burglary last month.

According to St. Clair Police, on October 12th, 2023, police were contacted by a property owner on East Lawton Street to report several items being stolen.

Officers met with the victim home where the scene was processed.

While checking the property, a tunnel was found which was dug from the basement through through to a secure room where tools were stored.

The property owner had previously set up trail camera in the basement which captured a clear photo of the suspect, who would later be identified as Kenneth Hengen, 34, of St Clair.

In total, it was estimated that $4,327 of tools were stolen.

On November 13th, 2023, St. Clair Police filed charges against Hengen including Burglary, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and criminal mischief.  A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
