Former Schuylkill County Residents Charged with Insurance Fraud

A man and woman that used to live in Schuylkill County are facing insurance charges for attempting to defraud an insurance claim.

According to court papers from Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli's office, on December 14th, 2023, Miranda Harrell, 28, of Lebanon, and Danny Harrell, 28, of North Carolina, were both charged by the State Attorney General's office with insurance fraud, criminal attempt to commit theft by deception, and conspiracy to commit insurance fraud.

The charges stem from an insurance claim that the couple made on their vehicle in November 2022.

An investigation revealed that on November 4th, 2022, the couple, while living in Gordon, was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County involving a deer.  The accident caused moderate damage to their vehicle.

At the time of the crash, the couple did not have insurance on the vehicle.

The following day, they contacted Progressive Insurance and obtained insurance.

Then several days later filed a claim on the crash but reported that it occurred on November 5th, 2022, the day after the crash and after they obtained insurance.

A result, the couple, who are now separated, will face the charges listed above. Both were arraigned on December 14th, 2023, before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.

They are scheduled to appear before Judge Tarantelli on January 10th, 2023 for a preliminary hearing.
