Shenandoah Valley Pays Tribute to Alumnus Who Recently Passed Away



In a short ceremony held on Thursday evening preceding the boys' basketball game, Shenandoah Valley High School paid heartfelt homage to a departed alumnus.
Brian "Bri" Rooney Jr., aged 34, peacefully passed away in his Shenandoah Heights residence on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, surrounded by his family. The former Blue Devil, who graduated in 2007, passed aweay after a fight against brain cancer. Rooney, renowned for his athleticism and sportsmanship, left an mark on Shenandoah Valley High School during his time as a student.

A versatile athlete, Rooney excelled in football, baseball, and basketball, proudly donning the number 9 jersey. He played a pivotal role in the 2006 District XI High School Football Championship team, earning his place in the record books of the school's sports history. The late alumnus was also honored with induction into the Shenandoah Valley Sports Hall of Fame.

Post-graduation, Rooney answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Displaying unwavering dedication, he completed an 18-month deployment in Mosul, Iraq.

To commemorate the life and legacy of Brian Rooney, the Blue Devils organized a poignant tribute prior to Thursday night's basketball game. The current varsity Boys Basketball Team formed the #9 at center court, and a moment of silence was held.
