Michael J. O’Malley III
, of Rush Township, Tamaqua, died Friday, January 26, 2024, at Lehigh Valley Health Network, Allentown. He was the proud steward of Kaup Estate, his maternal family’s ancestral home, settled in 1830.

Born October 9, 1953, at the former Coaldale State Hospital, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Jane Kaup O’Malley, descendent of the area’s earliest pioneering families, and Michael J. O’Malley II, a prominent coal operator and contractor in Schuylkill, Carbon and Luzerne counties.

He is survived by his partner John Boyd Henderson, Harrisburg, sisters Marria L. O’Malley Walsh, Pottsville, Lizabeth M. Corinchock, wife of Paul G. Corinchock, Weatherly, Patricia A. Regalis, wife of Joseph J. Regalis, Jr., Tamaqua, and brother James V. O’Malley, Lake Hauto; nieces Nicole C. Lipinsky (Neil) Allentown, Jillian E. Krill (Matthew) Bethlehem, Carly R. O’Malley, Lake Hauto, Cady E. O’Malley, Tamaqua and nephew Joseph M. O’Malley (Ashley), Newport News, Virginia and an aunt, Sandra Kaup MacPherson, Darien, Conn., grandnephews, Theodore, Andrew, Matthew and grandniece Elizabeth.

A 1971 graduate of Marian Catholic High School, Barnesville, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975 from the University of Scranton where he was a member of several honor societies and President of his senior class. His grandfather Moses Witty O’Malley was a member of the University’s first graduating class in 1898, when it was known as St. Thomas College. Mr. O’Malley completed his master’s degree in 1978 at Lehigh University while serving as a graduate assistant in the Office of the Dean.

Mr. O’Malley joined the staff of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC), Harrisburg, in 1978. He was appointed the first public information officer exclusively for Pennsylvania’s historic preservation program, served as one of two coordinators for “Pennsylvania’s 300th Birthday: A Celebration of Friends”, and as a special features coordinator for PHMC’s press office. In 1984 he was appointed editor of “Pennsylvania Heritage”, the national award -winning history magazine published by PHMC a position he held until his retirement in 2014. During his tenure as editor, he introduced a series of interviews with famous Pennsylvanians whose roles influenced or interpreted the Commonwealth’s heritage. Later he would initiate a series of articles featuring the memories of everyday individuals, and other innovative features. In retirement he served on the PHMC Historical Marker Review Committee.

He had served on the Boards of the Historical Society of Dauphin County, Doshi Gallery, and Midtown Market District in Harrisburg, and the Gabriel Chamber Ensemble, Orwigsburg. He was a member of the Tamaqua Elks Club, Tamaqua Legion and a 32-year member of the former Pottsville Club until it disbanded in 2013. Mr. O’Malley was a founder, charter member and an officer of the former Fort Schuylkill Chapter, Pennsylvania, National Society Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR). Currently he was a member of the Governor Hiestand Chapter, Reading, NSSAR.

Michael O’Malley was a true gentleman in every sense of the word from his signature bowtie to his demeanor. He touched whoever he met, however briefly. A kind and gentle person, he was genuinely interested in knowing who you were, what you thought and what interested you. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and love of arts, culture, antiques and especially history but most importantly when he had a conversation with you, you were the only person that mattered.

Friends may call at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 E. Broad Street, Tamaqua, on Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home at 11 a.m., followed by interment at the White Church Cemetery, Barnesville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tamaqua Public Library, 30 S. Railroad Street, Tamaqua, Pennsylvania 18252 or the University of Scranton, Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Arrangements are being handled by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Tamaqua.

William Seth "Smiley" Gall, age 49, of Saint Clair passed away Saturday, January 27th, 2024 at his home.

Born in Pottsville, PA on November 30, 1974, he was the son of the late Beverly D. (Lowe) Gall and George E. Gall, who survives him in St. Clair.

Bill was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School, Class of 1992. He worked as a supervisor at East Penn Manufacturing in Fleetwood. Bill loved visiting Disney and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers

In addition to his father, Bill is survived by his wife of 15 years, Renee A (Melochick) Gall, St. Clair; brother Edward Gall and his wife Sarah, Gresham, OR; his fur babies: Maddux, Parker, Mavis, and Poppy, and Jasmine, Smokey, Luna, Ziva and Nico; very good friends The Lubinsky Family of St. Clair; and aunts and uncles.

Funeral Services and interment will be held private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Erin Regan Animal Sanctuary P.O. Box 1012 Picayune, MS 39466. The family would like to thank the LVHN Hospice for their amazing care.

Geralynn M. "Lynn" Coller
, age 69, of Pottsville, PA passed away Thursday, January 25th, 2024 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pottsville.

Born in Pottsville, PA on July 5, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Chester J. and Margaret (Conroy) Kraska.

Lynn was a graduate of Nativity B.V.M. High School, Class of 1972 and then she attended Misericordia University. She worked as a Cardiopulmonary Therapist at the Good Samaritan Hospital and then for the Pottsville Internist Associates. Lynn was very avid about Organ Donation. She loved gardening, she donated to many charities, had a love for the outdoors, and enjoyed fashion.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother James Kraska.

Lynn is survived by a son Jedidiah E. Coller, Schuylkill Haven; a sister Rosemary (Kraska) Lipzok, New Philadelphia; aunt Theresa Kraska-Gross, Reading; and cousins, nieces, a nephew, great-nieces, and great nephews.

A Religious Service will be at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home in Port Carbon at 7PM on Friday, February 2nd, with Deacon John Setlock officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday from 6-7PM at the Funeral Home.

Interment will be held private.

Ann M. Kelly
, 68, a life-long resident of Shenandoah, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest, Allentown.

Born in Shenandoah on March 29, 1955, Ann was the daughter of the late John J. Kelly and Anna (Mohutsky) Kelly.

She was a 1972 graduate of Shenandoah Valley High School.

Growing up on the east end of Shenandoah Mr. Ted Twardzik, Sr. always asked the kids if they wanted a job at his plant. After graduation Ann accepted his offer and continued to work there for forty-five years. She retired from Ateeco Inc., Mrs. T’s Pierogies as an accounts receivable coordinator.

Years after her retirement, Ann found her happy place on the river in Virginia right next door to her late nephew, John Kelly. She couldn’t spend as much time there as she wished but loved her memories by the water with her fiancé Ben Makarczyk, her faithful furry friend “Daisy” and her family. As it turns out, Daisy was waiting only a short nine days by the rainbow bridge for her faithful companion. When Ann wasn’t by the water, she enjoyed the simple things in life, hanging out at Ben’s garage, playing solitaire, and Sunday drives. She will be dearly missed by Ben with whom she enjoyed life with for many, many years.

Ann was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah and the former Annunciation BVM Church. She really knew how to fry a bleenie at the church block parties. She also loved cooking for her family on special occasions.

Ann devoted her life to being a wonderful daughter, sister, fiancée, aunt and great aunt to her loving family. Ann is survived by her brother, John “Jack” Kelly and his wife Louise Ann of Shenandoah; fiancé, John “Ben” Makarczyk of Shenandoah, niece, Tina Nerelli and husband Dan, great-nephew Chase and great-niece, Ella all of West Chester; cousins and many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 10:00 am in Divine Mercy Church, 232 West Cherry Street, Shenandoah with Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment will follow in Annunciation BVM Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A viewing will be held on Friday morning from 8:00 am until 9:45 am at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 South Jardin St., Shenandoah.

Dennis A. Bittle
, 52, of New Palestine, IN, passed away Tuesday, January 23rd, at home.

Born in Pottsville, PA on December 2, 1971, he was a son of Fern A. (Mohl) Bittle and the late Joseph D. Bittle.

He was the husband of Aimee E. (May) Bittle whom he married 12-13-2003.

Dennis was a 1988 graduate of Blue Mountain High School. He attended Penn State University, and DeVry Technical School.

He was a member of Grace Evangelical Free Church, Cressona.

Dennis was a member of Cressona Band, and Cressona Boy Scout Troop #130. He had earned his Eagle Scout award.

Dennis worked as a foreman in the telecommunications field. He belonged to IBEW Union.

In addition to his mother, Dennis is also survived by a brother, Dale Bittle, of Cressona, PA, sister, Bonnie, wife of John Lane, of Leola, PA, aunts, uncles, & cousins.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, February 5th at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Cressona, with Rev. Josh Ott and Rev. Gerald Major co-officiating.

Interment will follow at Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.

William Ronald Daubert
, 90, of Pine Hill Rd., Pine Grove, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024 in Providence Place, Pine Grove.

Born on March 21, 1933 in Pine Grove, he was a son of the late Charles Jr. and Margaret Wenrich Daubert.

He was a 1951 graduate of Pine Grove High School.

William was a Dairy Farmer and was a member of the Brown Swiss Association, where he served as National Director for 8 years.

He was a member of the Schuylkill Church of the Brethren, Pine Grove, where he was a Deacon, taught Sunday School for over 50 years, and was on the cemetery board. He was also a member of the Roedersville Rod, Fish and Gun Club. He was an Agway Representative, coached Little League and played softball. He loved hunting and traveling. He traveled all over the world, including all 50 states in the US, with the Brown Swiss Association.

Preceding him in death were three brothers, Martin, Gerald "Gerry", and Clifford Daubert; two sisters, Marian Dohner and Mary Ellen Moyer.

Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Rhoda Spittler Daubert; two daughters, Rhonda and husband Ernest Spittler of Pine Grove, Anne and husband Dennis West of Blandon; four sons, Dean and wife Brenda Daubert of Batavia, N.Y., Dennis and wife Sharon Daubert, Ronald Ray and wife Melanie Daubert, Allen and wife Ann Daubert, all of Pine Grove; 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Noon at the Schuylkill Church of the Brethren, 347 Sweet Arrow Lake Rd. with Michael Barnhart, Galen Hackman and Glenn Martin officiating. There will be a viewing on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 10:30 until Noon at the Church. Interment will follow in the Schuylkill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Pine Grove.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to the Schuylkill Church of the Brethren, c/o Lois Lehman, 26 Pine Hill Rd., Pine Grove, Pa. 17963 in his memory.

The family of John Albert Isganitis announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather on Saturday, January 27, 2024. A resident of Hometown, he was 94 years old and passed peacefully after a visit from his family.

Born October 6, 1929 in Girard Manor, Pennsylvania, the son of the Alexander and Veronica (Sopagee) Isganitis he is predeceased by his sister Magdeline Reed and brothers Alexander, Joseph, Edward, Peter, William and Victor.

His first wife Ruth Hillibush succumbed to cancer and passed in 1979 after 30 years of marriage.

His loving family includes his faithful wife of 41 years Jane (George) Isganitis, sons Mark Isganitis, husband of the late Margaret Furrer , David Isganitis and wife Margaret, stepson David Ansbach and his wife Shelly, sister Dolores Kaufman, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

A 1948 graduate of Tamaqua High School, John served honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Iceland during the Korean War. He enjoyed a variety of jobs in his life, including sales of snack foods from a truck in various communities of Pennsylvania, machine operator and foreman at Lachman Printing in Lansdale and finally a machine operator at Merck, Sharpe and Dohme in West Point, Pa. He retired at the age of 73 and enjoyed his family until his passing. His patience and understanding was unsurpassed, and his sons have attempted to emulate his kindness and gentlemanly behavior that he taught them.

Virginia Neiswender, 93, a former resident of the Brandonville and Ringtown area, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 29, 2024 in Shenandoah, where she had recently resided.

Virginia was born in Ringtown on October 31, 1930, a daughter of the late William and Blanche (Dresher) Zimmerman. She worked in the local garment industry and was a member of the Ringtown Senior Citizens and St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was active in the ladies aid and a former member of church council.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Neiswender in 1993, a son, William Neiswender in 1983 and by her brothers, William, Robert, Thomas and Donald Zimmerman. She is survived by a sister, Frances Zimmerman of North Wales, PA, along with nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, February 2nd, 2024 at St. John's Lutheran Church, West Main Street, Ringtown. Everyone is asked to meet at the church for the 11 AM service. Virginia will be laid to rest at the Brandovnille Union Cemetery, immediately following the service.

Margaret A. “Peggy” Eckley
, 81 of Pottsville, died Saturday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown

She was born July 22, 1942, in Pottsville a daughter of the late William and Helen Hoban Dodds.

She was a 1960 graduate of Nativity BVM High School and Empire Beauty School.

Prior to retiring she was owner of a Gift Basket business called “My Goodness” She also worked as a teacher’s aide at the Schuylkill IU 29 and was a salesclerk at Bee Gees Department Store.

Peggy was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, the former St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, and the former Good Samaritan Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband Henry J. Eckley, to whom she married on March 4, 1961, at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, St. Clair; 3 sons, Christopher Eckley, Hummelstown, Brian Eckley and his wife Sue, Pottsville; Stephen Eckley, Middleport; 2 grandchildren, Matthew Eckley, Denver, CO; Jayne Eckley, New York, NY; 2 sisters, Theresa LaPlaca and her husband Al, Pottsville; Cathy Baldigo and her husband John, Pottsville; sister-in-law, Cornelia "Cookie" Eckley, Pottsville; nieces and nephews.

Peggy’s had an immense religious devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary, and immensely devoted to her family and friends and was proud of the wonderful careers of her grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill, East Norwegian and the Coronary Care and ICU staff at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM Friday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9AM until the time of mass at the church. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Peggy be made to St. Patrick Memorial Fund 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901, or Nativity Preservation Fund 1 Lawtons Hill, Pottsville, PA 17901. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville.

Rickie Hummel
, 66, of Helfenstein, passed away, Thursday evening, with family by his side, at his residence. Born in the former Ashland State General Hospital, Fountain Springs, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Marilyn Maurer Hummel. He was a graduate of the North Schuylkill High School, class of 1977. Rickie was active in football and wrestling, wining 76 times in 76 wrestling matches. He was employed 35 years as a butcher for Hazel Park Meats, Hazleton, and later as a forklift operator for Buchheit Logistics, Hometown, until his retirement. Rickie loved the outdoors, he was an avid lover of hunting, fishing, camping and target shooting.
