Speed Limits Reduced on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County Due to Weather Conditions

     

PennDOT has reduced the speed limits on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County due to weather conditions.

As of 8:30am, Friday, the speed limits on Interstate 81 northbound and southbound between the Interstate 80 interchange and the Interstate 78 interchange have been reduced to 45 miles per hour.  

This covers the entire length of Interstate 81 through Schuylkill County.

The updated speed limits have been posted in Schuylkill County on variable speed limit signs.  

Tier 2 restrictions have also been issued for Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County.  That means the following vehicles are prohibited:

  • Tractors without trailers.
  • Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded enclosed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers.
  • Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded tandem trailers.
  • Enclosed unloaded or lightly loaded cargo delivery trucks/box trucks that meet the definition of a CMV.
  • Passenger vehicles (cars, SUV’s, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers.
  • Recreational vehicles/motorhomes.
  • School buses, commercial buses and motor coaches.
  • Motorcycles.
  • Commercial vehicles towing loaded tandem trailers without chains or Alternate Traction Devices (ATDs).
  • All loaded or unloaded school buses, commercial buses, and motor coaches regardless of the availability of chains or ATDs.
