Former Girardville Mayor Steps Back into Role


Girardville Borough finds itself under familiar leadership as former Mayor Michael Zangari steps back into the mayoral role following the resignation of Judith Melhbaum last month.
The vacancy occurred during the February monthly meeting of the Girardville Borough Council when Mayor Judith Melhbaum tendered her resignation, effective February 29th, 2024. With the town in need of leadership, the council swiftly moved to fill the void during their March meeting held on Wednesday evening.

At the council meeting, Mayor Zangari was appointed to complete the term until the end of 2025.

Zangari, having previously served as mayor from January 2020 to December 2021.

On Thursday morning, Mayor Zangari was officially sworn in by Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli at his office in Frackville.

Additionally, Tammy Zangari, the wife of Mayor Zangari, was appointed to fill the vacant seat left by the resignation of Ed Burns.

Tammy is scheduled to be sworn in to the position on Thursday evening.
