On Thursday, May 22, 2025, the Schuylkill Technology Center (STC) celebrated a milestone as the first group of students completed the new Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship Program at its South Campus in Mar Lin.
The program, developed in partnership with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 743, offers students a direct pathway into the electrical trade. Through a School to Work Grant awarded to STC for the 2024-2026 academic years, this initiative provides grant-funded instruction designed to mirror the first year of the IBEW Apprentice Program.
Held three afternoons a week during the school year, from 2 to 4 p.m., the course combined theoretical instruction with practical, hands-on training. All six students enrolled in this inaugural cohort successfully completed the program.
As part of the partnership with IBEW Local 743, completers are guaranteed an interview with the union. Those who are offered positions will enter the IBEW Apprentice Program at Level II—an advanced standing that reflects their pre-apprenticeship training.
