Under the leadership of Knute Brayford, Supervisor of Special Education at North Schuylkill, this year’s Games broke records for participation. The athletes came from a wide array of school districts including North Schuylkill, Shenandoah Valley, Mahanoy Area, Minersville, Tamaqua, Blue Mountain, Shikellamy, Tri-Valley, Williams Valley, Mt. Carmel, Southern Columbia, Shamokin, Pottsville, Schuylkill Haven, St. Clair, Pine Grove, Upper Dauphin, Panther Valley, Palmerton, St. Joseph’s Center for Special Learning, and the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit.
Represented counties included Schuylkill, Columbia, Dauphin, Northumberland, Carbon, and Berks.
The day kicked off with the annual Mascot Race, being won by the Shamokin Area Indians,
setting the stage for a full slate of spirited competition.
Athletes ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade participated in a variety of track and field events such as javelin, shot put, tennis ball toss, Frisbee, running and standing long jump, vertical jump, 50-meter and 100-meter races, wheelchair races, and bocce ball. The only event cancelled was the relay race, due to approaching thunderstorms.
Throughout the day, athletes were cheered on by peers, families, teachers, and visiting school administrators, all proud to support and celebrate their efforts. Each participant received ribbons in recognition of their achievements.
The event was made possible by the extraordinary dedication of over 1,000 volunteers, who gave their time to ensure every athlete had a memorable experience. A carnival game area offered a break from the competition, adding an extra element of fun to the festivities.
As the day came to a close, the atmosphere remained electric with joy and pride. The real champions were the athletes themselves, who left with smiles, medals, new friendships, and memories to last a lifetime.
