The Pennsylvania Game Commission has announced that a prescribed fire is planned for today, May 20, 2025, on State Game Lands 326 in Blythe Township, Schuylkill County.
The controlled burn will cover approximately 238 acres and will take place south of Interstate 81 and the powerline running through the gamelands. It will also be situated east of Route 61/The Grade.
The purpose of the prescribed fire is to maintain the health of the region’s oak forest habitat. The burn will help reduce competition from less fire-tolerant tree species such as maple and birch, while also promoting increased food availability for wildlife.
Residents and travelers in the area should expect to see smoke on Broad Mountain near Frackville and Saint Clair between 9:00 AM and 8:45 PM.
