Cheryl A. Witman, 76, of Orwigsburg passed away on Sunday.

Born in Pottsville, October 16, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Elizabeth Otruba Miller.

Cheryl was a 1966 graduate of Blue Mountain Area High School.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Orwigsburg. She was also a member of Orwigsburg Eastern Star – Lodge 424.

In addition to her parents, Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband David who passed away in 2023. She was also preceded in death by her brother Brian W. Miller.

Cheryl is survived by her children, Keilly Lynn Witman of Boise ID and David A. Witman Jr. of Orwigsburg. She is survived by four grandchildren, David Earl, Dominique Frances, Jessica Ann, and Julianna Marie Witman, three great grandchildren: Royal, Juniper, and Scottie. She is also survived by her brother Dennis F. Miller.

In accordance with Cheryl’s wishes, private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Grabowski Funeral Home, Schuylkill Haven, is entrusted with services. Interment will be on the grounds of Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. Eugene C. Schaeffer
, 86, of York, formerly of Pine Grove, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025 in Rest Haven, York.

Born on November 7, 1938 in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Paul and Dorothy Frantz Schaeffer.

Eugene was a 1956 graduate of Pine Grove Area High School..

He was a United States Air Force veteran and was a Postal Clerk for the United States Postal Service for 37 years.

He was a member of the Pine Grove Area Ambulance Association for 25 years.

Gene loved watching his bird and squirrel feeders, and fed every stray animal within a 25 mile radius.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Nancy Yocum Schaeffer; a son, Scott Schaeffer.

Surviving are his daughter, Catherine Schaeffer of York; daughter-in-law, Diane Schaeffer of Harrisburg; step children, Mark (Mary Ann) Krammes of Suedberg, Marty (Cindy) Krammes of Pine Grove, Melanie (Michael) Miller of Etters, Mary Billow of S.C.; and 9 grandchildren.

Graveside Services with military honors and interment will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville with Pastor Barry Brown officiating. A Procession will be leaving the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove at 2:00 P.M. Anyone wishing to follow in the procession is asked to be at the Funeral Home by 1:45 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to either New Hope Wesleyan Church, 32 Spencer St., Frackville, PA 17931 or Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA, 18 Wertz Dr., Pine Grove, PA 17963 in his memory.

Former West Penn Township Police Chief James P. Tierney, Jr., 87, of New Ringgold, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 26, 2025, at St. Luke’s Carbon Campus in Lehighton.

Born on April 12, 1938, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late James P. Tierney, Sr. and Mary (McDonald) Tierney. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Wanda Joy Carol (Neifert) Johannides; brothers, Jerry and Thomas Tierney; and sisters, Barbara Tierney and Patricia Reddington.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Carol (Shaellhamer) Tierney; his sons, James P. "Ryk" Tierney III and Scott L. Neifert (wife Nadine); daughters, Kimberly Letts (husband Robert) and Joann S. Kasel; his sister, Mary Jane Tierney. He was a proud grandfather to Joseph and Jordan Laubach, Tyler Tierney, Colton Johannides, Joshua Pippetti (wife Jamie), James Pippetti, Amy Jo Pippetti, Vicki Putnam, Sabrina Kasel, and Zane Kasel, and Abigail and Zachary Letts. Jim was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren.A proud veteran, Jim served honorably in the United States Army before embarking on a distinguished law enforcement career. He began as a patrolman in Kutztown, later serving as Chief of Police in Topton, Maiden Creek, and West Penn Township. He dedicated over 30 years to public safety, including 16 years as Police Chief in West Penn Township, before retiring.

Retirement didn’t slow Jim down. He enjoyed a second career as a truck driver for Stegmeier Trucking and Wos-Wit Farms. A passionate antique car collector, he and Carol spent countless hours showing their beloved Model A and other classic cars at local events. Their greatest joy, however, was traveling cross- country—twice—on Jim’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle, creating memories they cherished.Jim was a proud member of the Schuylkill/Carbon Fraternal Order of Police Lodge. He believed in policing with compassion, preferring to de-escalate situations with humor rather than intimidation. Known for his endless supply of jokes, Jim had a gift for bringing laughter and light to those around him.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 2066 West Penn Pike, New Ringgold, PA 17960. Rev. Russell Campbell will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Interment with full military honors will follow at Zion Stone Church Cemetery, New Ringgold.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to Zion’s Stone Church of West Penn Township.

Sandra Marie Connaghan, 81, of Pottsville formerly Bridgewater NJ passed away Tuesday morning May 27th at Luther Ridge at Seiders Hill.

Geraldine Rose Wenner
, 92, of, Pottsville, passed away Monday, May 26th, at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

Geraldine was born in Pottsvillle, on June 16, 1932, a daughter of the late Teresa (DiCello) and Dominic Genovese.

She was the widow of Robert D. Wenner Sr.

She was a member of Church of Saint Patrick and the former Mary Queen of Peace Church of Pottsville.

Geraldine was a graduate of Pottsville High School Class of 1950, as well as a 1953 graduate of the Pottsville School of Nursing. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Good Samaritan & Pottsvillle Hospital Warne Clinic.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Kurczek, and sister, Giovanna Robertucci, and a Grandson, Robert D. Wenner III. Geraldine is survived by four daughters, Anna Strenkosky, Geraldine R., wife of Mark Lehman, Carla Vendora, Michelle Charles , wife of Melvin Lonergan, three sons Robert D., Jr. husband of Diane Wenner, John Wenner Sr., and Bernie Wenner. Geraldine is also survived by a brother, Dominic Genovese, and by 11 grandchildren, and 11 Great grandchildren.

All are respectfully invited to attend a Visitation 9:00:00 to 11:00 AM on Friday, May 30th at Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc. in Minersville. A Religious Service will follow at 11:00 am with Reverend Phillip Rogers officiating.

Interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Annville, PA.

Louis M. Borchick
, 79, of McAdoo, passed away early Monday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown.

Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Louis and Helen (Palusek) Borchick.

Louis retired from Hershey Food Company, Hazleton, after many years of service.

He was a loving father and husband, always willing to lend a hand and if something was broken, you could always count on him to fix it. Earlier in life, he enjoyed hunting with his wife, uncle and cousins. He loved home projects, working on the cars, his yearly trips to Ocean City and Sunday drives. In recent years, he found great joy in helping the neighborhood cats, who will miss him dearly.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Diane M. (Gronsky) Borchick.

Surviving are his daughter, Christine Durso and husband, Anthony of Harrisburg; sister-in-law, Theresa Gronsky of Berwick; and nieces and nephews also survive.

His funeral will be held Friday, May 30th, beginning at 9:30 a.m. from the Damiano Funeral Home Inc., McAdoo. Rev. Barnabas Shayo will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Church of All Saints, McAdoo. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s U.C. Cemetery, McAdoo.

A calling hour will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
