Lineage, Inc. a temperature-controlled warehouse real estate investment trust (REIT), has announced plans to acquire the Tyson Foods cold storage facility located in Cass Township as part of a major expansion of its U.S. cold storage network.
This acquisition is part of a larger definitive agreement with Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE: TSN) in which Lineage will take ownership of four existing cold storage warehouses across the country, including facilities in Pottsville, Pennsylvania; Olathe, Kansas; Rochelle, Illinois; and Tolleson, Arizona. The $247 million deal covers approximately 49 million cubic feet of storage and 160,000 pallet positions.
Lineage plans to integrate the Pottsville site into its global cold storage network while onboarding Tyson Foods' employees at the facility as part of a broader workforce transition exceeding 1,000 individuals nationwide.
In addition to the acquisitions, Lineage has committed more than $740 million to construct two fully automated cold storage warehouses in major U.S. markets including one in Hazleton. These facilities will be designed, built, and operated by Lineage with Tyson Foods serving as the anchor customer. Tyson will also begin utilizing Lineage’s newly opened, fully automated warehouse in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, which features the company’s proprietary LinOS warehouse execution technology.
Combined, the acquisitions and new developments are expected to see an investment of approximately $1 billion, underscoring Lineage’s push to modernize and expand its North American cold chain capabilities.
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to be finalized in the second quarter of 2025.
