The North Schuylkill Lady Spartans Volleyball Camp welcomed girls ages 9 to 15 for a full day of instruction, competition, and fun, with a focus on building both volleyball skills and self-confidence.
Led by Lady Spartans Head Coach Mutchler and Assistant Coach Palmerio, and the high school varsity team, who served as mentors and role models for the younger players. The event created an upbeat, encouraging environment where beginners and more experienced players could sharpen their fundamentals.
The day began with a brief introduction to the sport—covering scoring, rotations, three-hit strategies, and common rule violations—before the group jumped into “Great Ball of Fire,” a fast-paced warm-up game that helped reinforce communication and court movement.
The morning session zeroed in on forearm passing, with campers rotating through a variety of drills focused on stance, hand placement, and movement. Varsity players demonstrated techniques at each station and provided hands-on guidance, helping the campers with shuffle footwork, partner passing, and directional passing drills using cones.
Before breaking for lunch, the focus shifted to overhand serving. Step-by-step instruction helped the girls build confidence in their toss, footwork, and arm swing. After the break, serving games like “Deadfish” and the “Serving Chair Game” added a dose of fun while reinforcing the morning’s lessons.
In the afternoon, the spotlight turned to setting. Campers practiced hand positioning, wall drills, and partner work aimed at developing control and timing. The coaching staff and varsity players remained active throughout, offering encouragement and one-on-one feedback.
One of the highlights of the camp was the strong involvement of the varsity players, who brought energy, encouragement, and real-time examples to every drill. Their leadership helped create a positive experience for the campers and gave the younger girls a glimpse of where hard work and team spirit can take them.
Whether learning the basics or building on previous experience, every camper left with improved skills, new friendships, and a better understanding of the game.
