The Minersville Area Battlin’ Miners left little doubt Friday night as they stormed past the Shenandoah Valley Blue Devils, 49-6, in their Schuylkill League Division C opener.
The Miners set the tone early, scoring 15 points in the first quarter before exploding for 28 more in the second. By halftime, Minersville had built a commanding 43-0 lead and never looked back.
Quarterback Dante Carr had a strong night through the air, connecting with Paiten LaPoint on two touchdown passes (8 and 23 yards) and with Ty Atkinson on a 5-yard strike. Carr also added a conversion run to put the Miners on the board.
LaPoint returned a punt 35 yards for another score, while Gavin Allan (5-yard run) and Ethan Borrell (2-yard run) capped off a dominant ground attack. Jordan Bowers was steady on special teams, converting four extra points in the half.
The Blue Devils avoided the shutout in the third quarter when Mike Elchisak broke free for an 80-yard touchdown run. However, the extra point attempt was blocked.
LaPoint struck again on the ensuing kickoff, racing 78 yards to the end zone to complete Minersville’s scoring on the night.
With the win, Minersville improved to 2-0 and will hit the road next Friday to face Mahanoy Area, another Division C matchup. Shenandoah Valley, now 0-2, will look to rebound at home against Schuylkill Haven.
