Schuylkill County High School Football Power 5 - After Week 3

The third week of the Schuylkill County High School Football season brought both dominant wins and heartbreaking defeats.

Here’s how things stand after Week 3:

1. Williams Valley (3-0)

Last Week: 3 | This Week: 1 | Next: at Minersville (3-0)
The Vikings continue to look untouchable, earning their third straight shutout in a 49-0 rout of Nativity. Williams Valley has now outscored opponents 145-0 through three games. Brady Shomper accounted for four total touchdowns, Fletcher Thompson added 124 rushing yards and two scores, while the defense suffocated Nativity to just 5 total yards. With a clash against unbeaten Minersville looming, Week 4 could be their biggest test yet.

2. Schuylkill Haven (3-0)

Last Week: 1 | This Week: 2 | Next: vs Mahanoy Area (0-3)
The Hurricanes rolled past Shenandoah Valley 54-6, racking up another lopsided win. Haven’s high-powered backfield, led by Colton Reber and Niko Carestia, remains one of the most feared in the state, while Max Heim continues to provide balance in the passing game. Schuylkill Haven will host the Mahanoy Area Golden Bears this week.

3. Minersville (3-0)

Last Week: 4 | This Week: 3 | Next: vs Williams Valley
Dante Carr etched his name into Minersville history by becoming the program’s all-time passing leader, surpassing Scott Schwalm’s career yardage mark. He threw for four touchdowns and ran for another in a 42-6 win over Mahanoy Area. The Battlin’ Miners are playing balanced, efficient football. They’ll face the unbeaten Williams Valley Vikings next.

4. Marian Catholic (3-0)

Last Week: 5 | This Week: 4 | Next: vs Shenandoah Valley
The Colts are off to their best start in years after defeating rival Panther Valley 39-12. While Panther Valley’s size slowed their run game, Marian found other ways to win: Rory Dixon’s 64-yard pick-six, Jake Tom’s reverse touchdown and kickoff return score, and a late Tyler Price interception return sealed it. The Colts host the Shenandoah Valley Blue Devils this week.

5. North Schuylkill (2-1)

Last Week: 2  | This Week: 5 | Next: vs Southern Lehigh
The Spartans fell one yard short in a 21-20 loss to state-ranked Notre Dame-Green Pond, failing on a two-point conversion in the final minute. Luke Miller rushed for 113 yards and caught a late TD pass from Caden Mengel. Their loss drops them in the ranking, but the close win keeps them in the Top 5. They'll need to defeat an unbeaten Southern Lehigh this Friday to stay there.

On the Bubble

  • Tri-Valley (2-1)
Bounced back from a tough loss to Marian with a 24-0 shutout of Pine Grove. Parker Hatter rushed for 159 yards, while the defense held the Cardinals to just 50 total yards. This Friday should be a great matchup against Nativity.

  • Nativity BVM (2-1)
The Green Waves momentum was stifled by a 49-0 loss to Williams Valley. Nativity will try to regroup quickly in facing Tri-Valley.

  • Tamaqua Area (1-2)
The Raiders are worth mentioning in our rankings after defeating Pottsville Area during Week 3.  Another win this Friday against Jim Thorpe will show signs of some momentum and keep them on the bubble at the very least for next week.
