Schuylkill County Drug Raid Nets Trafficking Suspect in Minersville

A drug raid in Minersville has resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of methamphetamine and related paraphernalia, according to borough police.
The Minersville Police Department's Police Chief Jeffrey Bowers and Patrolman Leo Securda, assisted by St. Clair Police, Ashland Police, Schuylkill County Adult Probation, and the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office, executed a search warrant on Thursday at a residence located at 439 Carbon Street. The warrant was issued by Magisterial District Judge David A. Plachko.

Alex Lee King, 58, of Minersville, was arraigned before Judge Plachko and remanded to Schuylkill County Prison after bail was set at $75,000 cash. King faces multiple charges, including:
  • Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession with Intent to Manufacture or Deliver (felony)
  • Intentional Possession of a Controlled Substance by Person Not Registered (misdemeanor)
  • Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (misdemeanor)
Betty A. Butler, 54, also of Minersville, was charged through Judge Plachko’s office with:
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver (misdemeanor)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (misdemeanor)
During the search, police reported seizing significant quantities of methamphetamine and items commonly associated with drug distribution. Among the evidence found in King’s bedroom were:
  • Approximately 56 grams of methamphetamine packaged in a glassine bag
  • Large resealable bags used for drug packaging
  • Digital scales and empty baggies with residue
  • Smoking devices and a syringe containing a brown liquid
  • Marijuana cigarette wrapper and electronic devices
In Butler’s bedroom, investigators seized additional paraphernalia, including:
  • Glass container of marijuana
  • Digital scale, funnel, and glassine baggies
  • Wooden box containing paraphernalia
  • Electronic tablets and cell phones, including one that was smashed
  • Methamphetamine residue was also discovered in the kitchen, including on a blue plastic plate and a gold mirror.
Authorities noted that additional evidence tied to a separate pending death investigation was also collected at the scene.

According to police, this was not the first narcotics investigation involving King. On May 1, 2025, Pennsylvania State Police executed a separate search warrant at the same residence. That search uncovered methamphetamine packaged for resale, digital scales, and U.S. currency.
