A star-spangled sight is coming to Schuylkill County this week.
Reading & Northern’s red, white, and blue Locomotive #1776 will lead a special Office Car Special (OCS) train across the region on Thursday, November 20th, giving residents along the line a rare chance to see the patriotic engine up close as it rolls through their communities.
Route and Schedule
The special train will depart Mount Carmel between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., then make its way south and east through a series of Schuylkill County towns.
According to the railroad, the locomotive will travel through:
- Locust Gap
- Gordon
- Ashland
- Girardville
- Gilberton
- Mahanoy City
- Barnesville
- Hometown
- Nesquehoning
The run will conclude with its arrival in Jim Thorpe, where the consist will tie down for the day.
Locomotive #1776 is one of the Reading & Northern’s most recognizable units, painted in full red, white, and blue to honor America’s military and first responders.
The patriotic locomotive will also appear on the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway on Friday, November 21st, leading tourist excursions departing at:- 11:00 a.m.
- 1:00 p.m.
- 3:00 p.m.
