According Troopers, patrol units will operate checkpoints at selected locations during the listed time period. Troopers will systematically stop vehicles to briefly observe drivers for signs of impairment, including articulable facts or behaviors commonly associated with alcohol or drug impairment.
State Police emphasized that these checkpoints play an important role in preventing crashes and keeping impaired drivers off Pennsylvania roads.
“The goal of a sobriety checkpoint is to reduce the number of alcohol and drug related fatal and serious crashes, and to reduce the number of DUI drivers on Pennsylvania's highways,” the report states.
The agency noted that its mission is to maintain a safe environment for all motorists, and sobriety checkpoints are one of several enforcement tools used to meet that goal.
