Two Women Charged in Separate Welfare Fraud Cases in Schuylkill County

Two women from Catawissa and McAdoo are facing felony charges after investigators allege they failed to report income and household changes, resulting in thousands of dollars in improperly received public assistance benefits.

The charges in both these incidents were filed by the Pennsylvania Office of State Inspector General's office through Magisterial District Judge James Reiley's Office in Pottsville.

Catawissa Woman Accused of More Than $13,000 in Overpayments

Ashley Michelle Teichman, 27, of Catawissa, has been charged with two felony counts of Fraudulently Obtaining Food Stamps/Assistance.

According to charging documents, Teichman failed to report that Logan Anthony Pieffer was living in her household and failed to disclose his income from Clearly Clean Products LLC to both the Schuylkill County Early Learning Resource Center and the Schuylkill County Assistance Office.

As a result, investigators say Teichman received:

  • $10,208.00 in SNAP benefits she was not eligible for between June 1, 2021, and September 30, 2022, and
  • $3,311.75 in subsidized childcare benefits (SCC) from March 14, 2022, through October 4, 2022.

The affidavit states authorities have probable cause to believe she committed the offenses.

McAdoo Woman Charged in SNAP Fraud Case

In a separate case, Eliana Nataly Estremera, 36, of McAdoo, has been charged with one felony count of Fraudulently Obtaining Food Stamps/Assistance.

Investigators allege Estremera failed to report income earned from Commonwealth Charter Academy between January 5, 2023, and May 31, 2023 to the Schuylkill County Assistance Office.

This omission led to a SNAP benefit overpayment of $1,443.00, according to the affidavit. Authorities say they have probable cause to believe Estremera committed the offense.
