Schuylkill County Man Jailed After Police Discover Stolen Gun During Warrant Arrest

A St. Clair man is facing felony charges after police reportedly recovered a stolen handgun during his arrest.
Jahlique Ahkee Sherwood, 22, of St. Clair Borough, was taken into custody on December 19, 2025, and charged with Receiving Stolen Property (F2) and Firearms Not to Be Carried Without a License (F3).

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by St. Clair Police, an officer was on patrol at approximately 11:36 p.m. when a black Ford vehicle pulled into the Sunoco convenience store parking lot at 61 South Second Street. The officer observed Sherwood exit the vehicle and enter the store and recognized him as having an active arrest warrant.

A records check through Pennsylvania databases confirmed the active warrant. The officer then entered the store and took Sherwood into custody without incident.

During a search incident to arrest, police reported locating a black handgun with a pink grip and a weapon-mounted light concealed in Sherwood’s waistband. The firearm was identified as a Springfield XD .45 ACP and was secured and rendered safe. Police stated the magazine contained ten live hollow-point rounds.

A records check through the National Crime Information Center indicated the firearm had been reported stolen out of Bloomsburg, Columbia County. Pennsylvania State Police in Bloomsburg later confirmed the firearm was listed as stolen. Investigators also determined Sherwood did not possess a valid Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms.

Sherwood was preliminarily arraigned on December 22, 2025, before Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, who set bail at $50,000. Sherwood was unable to post 10 percent of the bail and remains incarcerated at the Schuylkill County Prison.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 30, 2025, at 10:45 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Edward M. Lewis.

Sherwood is also a key witness and has testified in the New Philadelphia double homicide that occurred in October 2023. That matter is unrelated to the current charges.
