Two Shot, One Killed in Early-Morning Incident in Freeland; Investigation Now Considered a Homicide

Pennsylvania State Police have launched a homicide investigation after a shooting early Tuesday morning in Freeland Borough, Luzerne County, left one teen dead and another injured.

The incident occurred around 2:31 a.m. on December 2, 2025. Troopers were first notified when several gunshot victims from the Freeland area began arriving at a local medical facility.

A preliminary investigation determined the shooting happened outside a business within the borough.

Two males were struck by gunfire:

  • A 15-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
  • An 18-year-old man was fatally struck and pronounced deceased at the hospital.

State Police have confirmed the case is now being treated as a homicide investigation.

The investigation is being led by the Troop N Major Case Team, in coordination with the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office. PSP notes that further information will only be released if it does not jeopardize the integrity of the investigation.

At this time, troopers believe the incident was isolated, and there is no immediate threat to the public.
