A Cumbola man was taken into custody and charged following a disturbance at a Port Clinton hotel bar earlier this month, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
State police from Troop L, Schuylkill Haven, were dispatched to the Port Clinton Hotel, located at 231 Centre Street, Port Clinton Borough, at approximately 7:07 p.m. on January 17, 2026, for a report of an individual threatening to kill another patron inside the bar.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, troopers made contact with Thomas John Ferhat, 37, of Cumbola, inside the establishment. Police said Ferhat initially did not acknowledge troopers and had difficulty answering basic questions regarding his identity and why he was at the bar. The affidavit states Ferhat appeared disoriented and was unable to clearly explain where his family was or provide a home address.
Bar staff reportedly told police that Ferhat had been asked multiple times to leave the establishment and that he was no longer welcome on the property. Police said Ferhat continued to insist on remaining at the bar and became increasingly argumentative.
The affidavit further states that Ferhat was observed falling into a wall during questioning and was advised he was no longer permitted inside the business. Bar staff also told police that Ferhat had allegedly threatened to shoot another person prior to police arrival. That individual reportedly left the bar before troopers arrived.
Police said Ferhat became aggressive when asked for his address and resisted officers’ attempts to place him in restraints. According to the affidavit, Ferhat pulled his hands behind his back and tensed up, making it difficult for troopers to apply handcuffs. Additional troopers responded to assist, and Ferhat was eventually restrained and taken into custody.
Ferhat was transported to PSP Schuylkill Haven for processing.
Ferhat was charged by Pennsylvania State Police with the following:
- Resisting Arrest/Other Law Enforcement (M2)
- Defiant Trespass – Actual Communication to Leave (M3)
- Disorderly Conduct – Hazardous/Physically Offensive Condition (M3)
- Public Drunkenness and Similar Misconduct (Summary)
Ferhat was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli and committed to Schuylkill County Prison after being unable to post 10 percent of $5,000 cash bail.
A preliminary hearing is expected to be scheduled at a later date.
