North Schuylkill Board Approves New Hires, Coaching Staff for Fall 2026; Discusses Locker Costs and Traffic Concerns


The North Schuylkill School Board approved several personnel hires, coaching appointments, and operational items during its meeting held on February 18, 2026.

Personnel Actions Approved

Under the Personnel Committee report, chaired by Jennifer Kowalonek, the board approved multiple employment changes pending receipt of required documentation:

  • Ashley Griffiths was approved as a Behavior Interventionist at a starting salary of $36,000, prorated, effective February 16, 2026.
  • Sitlali Medina was hired as a Part-Time Paraprofessional at $13.50 per hour, retroactive to February 2, 2026, pending a satisfactory 90-day evaluation.
  • Alissa Kowalick was approved as a Part-Time Paraprofessional at $15.30 per hour, retroactive to February 9, 2026, also pending a satisfactory 90-day evaluation.
  • Luke Greblick was hired as a Part-Time Custodian at $13.50 per hour, retroactive to February 10, 2026, pending a 90-day evaluation.
  • Jennifer Capone was approved as a Substitute Nurse Assistant at $13.75 per hour.
  • Jamie Johnson was approved as a Full-Time Secretary assigned to North Schuylkill Elementary School, effective on or about February 19, 2026. Her rate of pay will remain unchanged.

The board also approved the termination of Amanda Dana, Part-Time Cafeteria Worker, effective February 10, 2026, and accepted the resignation of Sophie Horbach, Part-Time Custodian, effective February 1, 2026.

Transportation and Safety

The board approved adding Reeve Platt to the roster of School Bus/Van Drivers/Aides for the 2025-2026 school year.

Additionally, Knute Brayford was approved to attend the PAIU School Safety and Security Conference in State College on March 12-13, 2026.


Fall 2026 Coaching Appointments Approved

The board approved a large slate of coaching appointments for the 2026 Fall athletic season.

Committee Discussion: Lighting Project Nearing Completion

During the Committee Meeting held prior to the voting session, district officials reported that the new lighting project at the baseball, softball, and football fields is wrapping up earlier than originally expected.

Board members also discussed the possibility of installing additional lockers for high school students. Currently, seventh and eighth grade students do not have lockers. Officials noted that previous estimates placed the cost of installing additional lockers at more than $300,000. No formal action was taken on the matter.


Public Comment Raises Traffic Concerns

During the public comment portion of the voting meeting, a district resident raised concerns regarding parking and traffic patterns during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal times.

District officials responded that both issues are currently being reviewed and worked on.
