Fire Damages Exterior of Home and Garage in Altamont Saturday Afternoon

A fire damaged the exterior of a home and garage in Altamont on Saturday afternoon, but quick action by firefighters prevented the flames from spreading.
Emergency dispatchers sent firefighters to the 100 block of South Spencer Street around 2:00 p.m. for a report of a house fire. When crews arrived at 119 South Spencer Street, they found a working fire with flames showing in a breezeway located between a home and a detached garage.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control within minutes, limiting the damage to the exterior of the structures. Officials said the fire did not extend into the garage or the home.

Power had reportedly been out in the area for approximately 30 minutes prior to the incident due to wires down near North Line and Spring Streets. A transformer near the home had also tripped.

No injuries were reported, and firefighters cleared the scene within about an hour.

Responding to the scene were firefighters from West Mahanoy Township, Shenandoah, Englewood, Frackville, Mahanoy City, and Ashland.
