Pottsville Awarded $100,000 Grant for Greenways Connector Trail Project

The City of Pottsville has been awarded a $100,000 Keystone Communities grant to help advance the Pottsville Greenways project, a local initiative aimed at expanding recreational opportunities and strengthening connections throughout the city.
State Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-Schuylkill) and State Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) announced the funding, which will support the construction of a connector trail linking the JFK Park facility with the Pottsville Area School District. The trail will also tie into the existing 9/11 Trail, helping to create a more connected network of recreational pathways for residents.

“This grant will help bring the Pottsville Greenways project to life, creating safe, accessible trails that connect our parks, schools and neighborhoods,” Twardzik said. “It’s an investment in our community’s health, recreation and quality of life for residents of all ages.”

Argall said the project builds on the continued progress being made in Pottsville.

“Investments like this help continue the positive momentum we’re seeing in Pottsville,” Argall said. “By improving connections between parks, schools, businesses, and neighborhoods, the Pottsville Greenways project will enhance recreation opportunities and strengthen the city for years to come.”

The funding comes through the Keystone Communities program, a statewide initiative administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development that supports local revitalization efforts and public improvement projects.

City officials will oversee the project, with the grant supporting Phase I of development. The initiative will also be supplemented by approximately $25,000 in private contributions.
