A West Mahanoy Township man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after police say he assaulted a child under the age of 13.
Edwin Casiano, 48, of Weston Place in West Mahanoy Township, was charged by West Mahanoy Township Police with felony counts of aggravated indecent assault of a child and corruption of minors, along with misdemeanor counts of indecent assault and endangering the welfare of children.
According to court documents, the alleged incidents occurred on December 24th, 2025.
Casiano was arraigned Thursday morning before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker and was committed to Schuylkill County Prison on $150,000 straight cash bail.
Investigation Began Following ChildLine Referral
According to an affidavit filed by West Mahanoy Township Police Chief Matt Williams, the investigation began in February 2026 after police received a ChildLine abuse referral from Schuylkill County Detectives.
The report stemmed from a 10-year-old female who confided in a teacher at school that her adopted guardian, Casiano, had touched her inappropriately.
The juvenile told investigators the first incident occurred at their home on Weston Place on December 24th, 2025. Police say Casiano had been drinking and allegedly approached the child in the kitchen, asking, “Are you ready?” before touching her inappropriately.
Authorities say Casiano continued drinking throughout the day while others were present at the home. After his wife — the child’s aunt — and other company left, a second incident allegedly occurred later that night while the child was sleeping on a couch.
Interview Conducted at Child Advocacy Center
The child was later interviewed in February at the UPMC Child Advocacy Center, where additional details about the alleged incidents were disclosed.
During the investigation, the juvenile also told authorities she had informed her aunt about what happened, but the incidents were not reported at that time.
Suspect Claims He Does Not Recall Incident
On March 12th, 2026, police interviewed Casiano regarding the allegations.
According to court documents, Casiano admitted he had been drinking that day beginning around 1:00 p.m. and told investigators he became so intoxicated that he did not remember the events he was being accused of. He told police he remembers waking up around 12:00pm on December 25th, 2026.
Charges Filed
Casiano is charged with:
- Aggravated Indecent Assault of a Child (Felony 2)
- Corruption of Minors (Felony 3)
- Two counts of Indecent Assault of a Person Less Than 13 (Misdemeanor 1)
- Two counts of Endangering the Welfare of Children (Misdemeanor 1)
Casiano remains incarcerated at Schuylkill County Prison as of this report.
All charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
