Inmate Accused of Biting Corrections Officer During Intake at the Schuylkill County Prison

An inmate at the Schuylkill County Prison is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting a corrections officer during the intake process last week, according to the Pottsville Bureau of Police.
Police say the incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, when officers were dispatched to the prison regarding an assault on staff. Upon arrival, Police spoke with a corrections officer who reported being bitten by an inmate identified as Collin John Winter.

According to the report, Winter had been transported to the prison by Schuylkill Haven Police Department and became argumentative and combative during intake. Authorities say Winter repeatedly threw himself to the floor and had to be physically assisted onto a bench by staff.

The situation escalated when Winter allegedly refused to change into a prison uniform and challenged staff to force compliance. As officers attempted to gain control, police say Winter bit a corrections officer on the right index finger, breaking the skin through a latex glove. He also allegedly spat at prison staff multiple times during the incident.

As a result, Winter is facing charges including aggravated assault on an enumerated person, aggravated harassment by a prisoner, simple assault, and harassment.

Winter was being locked up on charges for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct.  His bail for those charges was set at $5,000 straight cash by on-call Magisterial District Judge Christian Lengel.
