Mahanoy Township Police Detail Results in Immigration Detentions, DUI and Weapons Charges

A commercial vehicle safety inspection conducted Friday by the Mahanoy Township Police Department led to multiple citations, two immigration-related detentions, and several criminal charges following a separate traffic stop.

According to police, the enforcement detail took place April 24, 2026, along Burma Road with assistance from federal immigration authorities and the Ryan Township Police Department.

During the operation, two individuals were identified as being unlawfully present in the United States and were taken into custody by federal authorities.

In addition to the immigration enforcement, officers issued multiple citations to commercial drivers for safety and regulatory violations as part of the inspection detail.

Police also reported a separate traffic stop during the detail involving a sedan for illegal windshield and side window tint. During that stop, the driver was found to be under the influence of suspected marijuana under Pennsylvania’s Act 64.

Further investigation led to additional charges, including expired vehicle registration, possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful possession of a Glock 23 handgun.

Mahanoy Township Police said the enforcement initiative is part of ongoing proactive efforts to enhance roadway safety and address criminal activity in the community.
