Schuylkill and Surrounding County First Responders Gather to Send Off Ringtown Fire Chief Ahead of Military Deployment

A large show of support unfolded Wednesday evening as first responders from across Schuylkill County and beyond gathered to honor Ringtown Valley Fire and Rescue Chief Joey Gilbert ahead of his deployment for active military service.
More than 30 pieces of apparatus, including fire trucks, ambulances, and police vehicles, lined up in a powerful display of unity. In addition to Schuylkill County departments, units from Columbia, Northumberland, and Carbon counties also took part in the send-off.

The gathering served as a send-off for Gilbert, who is scheduled to leave for Pittsburgh on Thursday as part of his deployment process. He said he does not yet know where he will be heading beyond that point.

Gilbert, who appeared surprised by the turnout, said he was not aware the show of support had been planned.

When asked if he knew about the event beforehand, he said he did not. Asked what he was feeling in the moment, Gilbert described himself as “shocked.”

Gilbert expressed his appreciation to those who came out in support.

The event highlighted the strong sense of camaraderie among first responders, as departments from multiple counties came together not for an emergency, but to recognize one of their own.

Gilbert serves as chief of Ringtown Valley Fire and Rescue and is now preparing to take on his duties in military service, with the backing of fellow responders and the broader community behind him.
