An Orwigsburg man has been charged by the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven for allegedly failing to comply with registration requirements under Megan’s Law.
According to court documents, Artisan Rene La Chere, 79, of Orwigsburg, is accused of not meeting mandatory obligations as a registered sex offender, including failing to register with the Pennsylvania State Police and failing to verify his address or be photographed as required.
Police say La Chere is subject to lifetime registration under Megan’s Law and is required to appear before a law enforcement agency every 12 months to verify personal information such as residence, employment, and other required details.
Investigators reported that La Chere last completed a verification on May 21, 2025, at PSP Hamburg. However, authorities later learned that he had been evicted from his listed residence at 1387 Centre Turnpike in West Brunswick Township on November 18, 2025.
According to the affidavit, La Chere was required to update his address by November 21, 2025, but failed to do so. His former landlords told police they believe he may be transient and possibly living in his vehicle within Berks County.
Further investigation also found that La Chere had previously been charged in Volusia County, Florida, in 2018 for failure to properly register as a sex offender.
As a result of the investigation, La Chere has been charged with the following:
- Failure to Register with the Pennsylvania State Police (Felony 1)
- Failure to Verify Address/Be Photographed (Felony 1)
Authorities have requested a warrant for his arrest. No additional information was immediately available.
