Port Carbon Invites Public to Celebrate Schuylkill County’s Longest-Running Fourth of July Tradition

Residents and visitors from across Schuylkill County are invited to celebrate Independence Day in Port Carbon as the borough prepares for what organizers say is the county’s longest-running Fourth of July celebration. The annual event, scheduled for Saturday, July 4, 2026, will feature a full day of activities, including a 5K run/walk, parade, family events, live entertainment, and a fireworks display.

The day will begin with the Port Carbon Firecracker 5K Run/Walk at 8 a.m. The race will start and finish at the John L. Miller Memorial Playground and will take participants through the streets of Port Carbon and a portion of neighboring Palo Alto. Organizers welcome both runners and walkers, and early registration remains open through June 15 for those wishing to receive a commemorative race shirt. Day-of-race registration will also be available.

Following the race, spectators are encouraged to line the streets for the borough’s annual Fourth of July Parade, which begins at 10 a.m. The parade will feature local organizations, fire companies, veterans groups, businesses, elected officials, and community members celebrating America’s independence and the community spirit that has become synonymous with the borough’s annual festivities.

One of the celebration’s longtime traditions, the Port Carbon July 4th Baby Parade, is also accepting registrations. Open to children up to 12 years old from throughout Schuylkill County, participants can walk, ride bicycles, create floats, or showcase their patriotic spirit. This year’s theme is “Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary.”

In addition to the day’s activities, commemorative 2026 Port Carbon Fourth of July Celebration T-shirts and limited-edition challenge coins are available for purchase while supplies last. Organizers said proceeds from merchandise sales help support the continued success of the annual celebration, including the parade, Firecracker 5K, and fireworks display.

As evening approaches, MAGIC 105.5 will provide a live remote broadcast from the Francis E. Lubinsky Playground from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., featuring patriotic music leading up to the fireworks. The celebration will conclude with a fireworks display beginning at 9:30 p.m.

According to organizers, Port Carbon’s Fourth of July Celebration has been held annually since 1947, bringing together generations of families, friends, and visitors for a day of community pride and patriotic traditions. Borough officials are encouraging former residents, neighboring communities, and visitors from across the region to attend and help continue the longstanding tradition.
