PennDOT Announces Week of Road Work Across Schuylkill County


PennDOT has announced several roadwork projects scheduled throughout Schuylkill County during the week of July 13. Motorists should expect daytime lane restrictions at multiple locations and are encouraged to plan for possible travel delays.
All projects are scheduled to take place between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. 

Route 54: Ashland to Mahanoy City

Construction work is scheduled along Route 54 between Ashland Borough and Mahanoy City Borough from July 13 through July 17. The project extends through Butler, West Mahanoy, and Mahanoy townships, as well as Girardville and Shenandoah boroughs. Daytime lane restrictions will be in effect throughout the project.

Route 924

Milling and paving operations are planned on Route 924 between Shenandoah Borough and Brandon Street in West Mahanoy, Union, and East Union townships. Work is scheduled from July 13 through July 17, with daytime lane restrictions expected while crews are on site.

Morea Road

PennDOT maintenance crews will mill and pave Morea Road between Frackville and Morea in West Mahanoy Township from July 13 through July 17. Motorists traveling through the area should expect lane restrictions and possible delays during daytime hours.
East Mahanoy Avenue

Construction work on East Mahanoy Avenue between Route 54 and Main Street in Butler Township and Girardville Borough is scheduled from July 13 through July 17. Lane restrictions will be in place while work is underway.

Main Street/Gilberton Road

Construction is also planned along Main Street and Gilberton Road between Mahanoy City and Route 54. The project will affect Butler and West Mahanoy townships, along with Girardville and Gilberton boroughs, from July 13 through July 17. Drivers should anticipate daytime lane restrictions.

Big Mine Run Road

A one-day construction project is scheduled for Monday, July 13, on Big Mine Run Road between the Columbia County line and Route 54 in Butler Township. Lane restrictions will be in effect during work hours.

Additional Route 54 Paving Project

PennDOT also announced a separate milling and paving project on Route 54 between Mahanoy City and Barnesville in Mahanoy Township. That work is scheduled to begin Friday, July 17, and continue through Monday, July 20. Motorists traveling through the area should expect daytime lane restrictions while paving operations are completed.

PennDOT reminds motorists to slow down, remain alert, and use caution while traveling through work zones. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and watch for changing traffic patterns and highway workers.
