After rain forced the cancellation of last week's program for just the second time this season, the track will welcome fans back with a four-division racing card and several activities planned for younger race fans.
As part of Back to School Night, Foran's Transmission & Auto Repair and Palermo's Pizza will provide backpacks filled with school supplies for children while supplies last. Face painting will also be offered by Silly Smiles Face Painting and Magic Mirror Face Artistry.
Children under 16 will be admitted free.
The evening will also feature the annual Lasting Legends Night, which has become a fan-favorite event bringing former Big Diamond Speedway competitors back to the track for a special meet-and-greet before racing begins.
This year's group of Lasting Legends includes 1993 and 1994 Street Stock champion Bruce Williams; Dick Maberry, a popular Modified competitor during the latter half of the 1970s; former Sportsman Modified racer Terry Peters; Modified standout Davey Wenger; multiple Street Stock and Modified winner Keith Trumbo; and Frankie Burke, who both raced at Big Diamond and later spent time as the track announcer.
The Dog Pound will also give away special prizes for the "Best Vintage T-Shirt."
On the track, Friday's program will include the BQ Concrete 358 Modifieds, USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman, Big Creek Concrete Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman and River Valley Builders 305 PASS Sprint Cars. The Red White and Blue Autos Inc. Roadrunners have the night off.
Friday marks the first of just four remaining regular-season points races for the 358 Modifieds and 602 Crate Sportsman.
After 16 events in the 358 Modified division, defending champion Louden Reimert leads the standings over Mike Lisowski and Timmy Buckwalter. Duane Howard and Logan Watt round out the top five. Reimert also leads the division with four victories this season.
In the 602 Crate Sportsman division, Ryan Graver sits atop the standings after 14 features. Graver is coming off his class-leading fourth victory of the season and leads Zach Steffey and Dakota Kohler in the rankings.
The PASS 305 Sprint Cars will also return to Big Diamond on Friday, while the Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman division continues its season after producing four different winners, including most recent first-time winner Mason Harakel.
General admission is $24, with children under 16 admitted free. Pit admission is $35 for members and $45 for non-members.
The pits open at 5 p.m., followed by the grandstands at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 6:45 p.m., with racing to follow.
Big Diamond Speedway's August schedule continues Friday, August 21, with DBR Industrial Services LLC Night and the Prelude to the Coalcracker. The 358 Modifieds will compete in a 50-lap feature paying $10,000 to win, joined by the 602 Crate Sportsman, Roadrunners and Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman.
On Friday, August 28, the track will host USS Achey Inc. Night and the Fayash Memorial, featuring the 358 Modifieds, 602 Crate Sportsman, Roadrunners Crazy 8s and Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman.
