Pottsville Man Accused of Throwing Spiked Metal Ball and Chain Through Car Window

A Pottsville man is facing assault and related charges after Pennsylvania State Police alleged he threw a spiked metal ball and chain at a woman’s vehicle, shattering its rear windshield.
According to a criminal complaint filed by state police at Schuylkill Haven, troopers were dispatched to Canary Street in North Manheim Township around 2:50 a.m. on September 20, 2025, for a reported assault.

Before troopers arrived, the woman told police she had caught 45-year-old Francis Richa Golab III, whom she described as her boyfriend, with another woman. She reported that Golab had smashed a window on her vehicle.

Troopers allegedly found Golab with another woman when they arrived. Golab told police that he and the complainant had ended their relationship months earlier and alleged that she frequently drove through the neighborhood, honked her horn or yelled from her vehicle.

Golab also claimed the woman had knocked on a window and pushed over his motorcycle that night. He told troopers he had attempted to block her telephone number.

The woman disputed Golab’s description of their relationship, telling police that they had recently been together.

According to the affidavit, the woman said she drove past the Canary Street residence and honked after seeing Golab outside. She alleged that Golab ran after her vehicle as she continued onto Finch Street.

The woman told police her vehicle became stuck briefly while she attempted to make a sharp turn at the intersection of Finch and Dove streets. While the vehicle was stuck, Golab allegedly threw an object that smashed its rear windshield.

She reportedly described the object as appearing to be attached to something and resembling “nunchucks.”

Troopers said they found shattered glass in the roadway at the intersection. A spiked metal ball and chain was allegedly discovered nearby and collected as evidence. Police said the item was found where the woman reported that her window had been smashed and resembled the object she described.

Golab is charged with misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person, simple assault, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

The charges were filed on August 19, 2026, before Magisterial District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek. Golab was issued a summons and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 3 p.m. on September 8, 2026.
