A Christiana woman was jailed Monday after Pennsylvania State Police accused her of bringing K-2 into State Correctional Institution (SCI) Mahanoy and delivering it to an inmate during a visit.
Charges Filed Against Alyssa Marie Murray
Alyssa Marie Murray, 32, is charged with felony manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to deliver, along with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police Detail Alleged K-2 Delivery at SCI Mahanoy
According to an affidavit filed by Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, police were called to the prison at approximately 10:58 a.m. Monday, September 14.
A prison captain told investigators that officials had received information indicating Murray planned to bring K-2, also known as synthetic marijuana, into the facility for inmate Tyrese Hatfield.
The captain alleged that surveillance footage from the visit showed Murray providing the substance to Hatfield, prompting prison staff to intervene.
A corrections officer subsequently searched Murray and allegedly found three identification card-sized pieces of paper containing K-2 in her left pocket, according to the affidavit. Police said a rubber glove fingertip and plastic wrap, which investigators described as packaging materials, were also found.
The affidavit further alleges that Hatfield concealed some of the substance inside his body after receiving it from Murray.
Bail and Preliminary Hearing
Court records show Murray was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker. Bail was set at 10% of $25,000, and she was committed to Schuylkill County Prison after being unable to post bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. on October 1 before Kilker.
All charges are allegations. Murray is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
