MAHANOY CITY — A Mahanoy City woman is facing felony assault charges after police allege she threw hot soup on her boyfriend and struck him in the head with a pot during a domestic dispute Tuesday evening.
Katura Atasa Williams, 45, was charged by Mahanoy City Police in connection with the , incident.
Police Respond to East Pine Street Residence
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Patrolman Philip Petrus, he and Officer Smith were dispatched at approximately 8:15 p.m. to a residence on East Pine Street for a reported domestic disturbance.
The initial report involved a woman who allegedly poured hot liquid on a man and struck him with a pot.
Upon arriving, officers encountered an injured man standing outside the residence. The man told police that he and his girlfriend, identified as Williams, had been arguing.
During the dispute, Williams allegedly poured a pot of hot soup on the man before striking him with the pot, according to the affidavit.
Police Report Head Injury and Medical Emergency
Police reported that the man had a large, bleeding gash and bruise on his forehead. His coat was also wet from the liquid.
According to the affidavit, the man complained of feeling lightheaded, prompting officers to have him sit on the sidewalk.
Officers then spoke with Williams, who acknowledged that she and the man had been involved in an argument and domestic dispute.
Williams reportedly told police that after throwing hot water on the man, he walked outside the residence. She allegedly attempted to chase him around the block but stopped and returned inside.
Williams was subsequently taken into custody.
After Williams was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle, officers observed the man lying on the sidewalk and appearing to experience a seizure, according to police.
Emergency medical personnel responded and transported him by Life Flight to Cedar Crest Hospital for treatment of his head injuries.
Charges, Bail and Preliminary Hearing
Court records list the following charges against Williams:
- Aggravated assault, a first-degree felony
- Simple assault, a second-degree misdemeanor
- Harassment, a summary offense
Williams was arraigned on , before Magisterial District Judge Christian Lengel.
Bail was set at $15,000 monetary. Williams was committed to Schuylkill County Prison after being unable to post bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for , before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker.
All charges are allegations. Williams is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
