Updated with names:  02/25/14 at 8:20am

Around 7PM, Wednesday evening (February 19, 2014), Shenandoah Borough officers were called to the 100 Block of North Jardin St. for a fight in progress.  While enroute, officers were advised that the fight involved weapons in the form of shovels and that the fight was escalating.

When officers arrived, they found several people in the street with shovels.

Officers broke up the crowd and were able to determine who the victim was. The victim indicated he was trying to shovel snow away from his car when he heard suspect, a juvenile, start cursing at him. The juvenile approached the victim cursing and pushed him. The victim pushed the juvenile away and the juvenile's father, Jorge Aguilar, began to fight the victim.  Aguilar and the juvenile began assaulting the victim by punching him several times in the head. The victim’s wife attempted to pull the juvenile off of her husband, but the juvenile was able to shove her to the ground, causing injury to her knees.

According to police, multiple witnesses on the scene corroborated the story.

Officers then attempted to take the juvenile and the Aguilar into custody. Aguilar complied with officers and was handcuffed without incident.

A melee ensued when officers attempted to take the juvenile into custody. The juvenile elbowed one officer in the face and attempted to remove that officer’s weapon from his holster. The juvenile's mother began to interfere and began fighting with the other officer.

While Aguilar was in custody during the scuffle, he stood up and attempted to kick an officer in the back but was tackled by a bystander who restrained Aguilar to the porch.

Numerous charges were filed against Aguilar and son to include: aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, disarming law enforcement officer, harassment, and disorderly conduct.

Charges against the mother are expected to be filed at a later date.
