Suspects in Store Theft Flee Police

Mahoning Township Police, Carbon County, are currently investigating a burglary/retail theft/hit and run at the Verizon store on 443.

Over $4,400 in electronics were reported stolen from the store. 

Two males suspects fled the scene in a vehicle heading west on SR 443. 

While entering the highway they struck another vehicle. 

The suspect vehicle was spotted by West Penn Township Police and stopped on SR 309. It was reported that the passenger in the car pointed a firearm at the West Penn officer. The male then fled into the woods. 

Police searched the area off of 309 near Country Tile. Residents are asked to report any suspicious persons immediately by calling 911.

The driver of the vehicle fled the traffic stop and headed into Tamaqua where he was stopped by police and taken into custody.
