Tamaqua Historical Society to Host Reading Railroad Slide Show

On Tuesday evening, November 20 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, the Tamaqua Historical Society will host a Reading Railroad slide presentation featuring the photographs of the late Arch and Bruce Kantner, two Schuylkill County brothers who photographed and documented the Reading Railroad from the 1940s through the 1960s during the railroads heyday.

This special presentation is part of the historical society’s yearlong celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the first successful use of Anthracite Coal in 2018.  Those in attendance will be treated to a rare opportunity to see hundreds of slides of the Reading Railroad taken along their mainline from Reading to Schuylkill County and beyond! Included will be scenes along the mainline, Little Schuylkill Branch, Schuylkill Valley Branch and Catawissa Branches.

The slide presentation will be a tribute to the Kantner Brothers by longtime friend and railroader, Craig Werley of Berks County. Admission is $10 at the door and there are no advance reservations.  The program will be held across the street from the Tamaqua Historical Society Museum in the comfort of the Salvation Army Community Center at 105 West Broad Street in Tamaqua. Light refreshments and snacks will be available for sale.
