Woman Charged with Stealing from Toys for Tots Bin at Schuylkill County Courthouse

A woman residing in Mahanoy City was arrested Thursday after she was caught stealing from the Toys for Tots Donation Bin at the Schuylkill County Courthouse.

According to the Schuylkill County Sheriff's Office, on Thursday, around 12:20pm, Deputy Gerard Daley was advised of a possible theft that had just occurred at the Courthouse.

The information regarding the suspects was relayed as two black females had stolen toys from the Donation bin outside the District Attorney's office and were heading toward the parking lot.

Once outside, Daley observed a female fitting the description getting into a white SUV at the end of the parking lot.

The vehicle pulled away before Daley could flag them over.

District Attorney O'Pake had already been outside, pulled up in his own vehicle, and picked up Daley.  The two followed the white SUV.

While traveling on South Center Street, the vehicle pulled over in front of 219 South Center.

Daley approached the vehicle asked for the driver's license, registration, and insurance.  The driver, Rashida Z. Lovett, 37, of Mahanoy City, provided Daley with a Rhode Island ID.  She informed Daley she now resides in Mahanoy City, not Rhode Island.

After running Lovett's information, it came back that her license had been suspended.

Daley then informed Lovett she had been pulled over for "suspected theft at the courthouse".

Lovett then replied with "what are you talking about, the doll".  Daley had not known what was taken exactly.

She handed the doll back to Deputy Daley and said "I thought it was free".

Lovett was then advised that she was going to be charged with theft, receiving stolen property and riving without a license.
