Ashland Fire Under Investigation; 4 Families Displaced

Four families were displaced and a sandwich shop was destroyed after an early morning fire in Ashland.

At 3:34am, emergency personnel  were dispatched to 100 Centre Street for a structure fire.  As the first crews arrived, they found heavy fire from the roof.

Fire Chief Philip Groody quickly upgraded the fire to a 3rd Alarm and requested a tanker task force.

Fire crews from Schuylkill County, Northumberland County, and Columbia County responded with multiple personnel.

It took crews over 2 hours to get a handle on the fire that left 4 families displaced.

The fire destroyed 100 Centre Street, which was the M&M Sandwich Shop, 106, 108, 110, and 112 Centre Streets.

All 4 families are being assisted with lodging, food, and clothing from the American Red Cross.

Crews spent the morning and afternoon putting out hotspots while a state police fire marshall investigated the scene.

The fire is still under investigation.

Three firefighters suffered minor injures while fighting the blaze.
