Five Displaced After Fire in Mahanoy City

Five people are displaced after a fire damaged two homes in Mahanoy City on Tuesday.

At 5:12pm, on Tuesday, Mahanoy City fire personnel were dispatched to 724 West Centre Street in the borough for a working structure fire.

The first crews on the scene found heavy smoke coming from multiple row homes and the fire was quickly upgraded to a second alarm.

Mahanoy City Fire Department Public Information Officer, Dave Truskowsky said firefighters encountered a fire in the basement of 724 that spread to the attic of the home.  The fire was mainly contained to the address, which sustained heavy fire, smoke, and water damage.  The home at 722 was reported to have sustained smoke and water.

The fire was reported under control at 6:22pm.

A family of four was said to have lived at 724 and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.  All of the family's animals were also rescued.

A woman who lived at 722 is said to be staying with family.

A State Police Fire Marshall has been called to investigate a cause of the fire.
