Fire Destroys Barn, Damages Silo near Ringtown

A fire destroyed a barn and damaged a silo on a farm in Union Township on Thursday

Just before 5:45pm, emergency personnel were dispatched to 126 Pine Swamp Road, Union Township for a working barn fire.

As the first crews arrived, the fire was found at the Lindner Farm, and the address was changed to 214 Pine Swamp Road.  The barn was fully engulfed and the fire was upgraded to 2nd alarm initiating the tanker task force calling in additional water units from around Schuylkill and Columbia Counties.

The fire was reported to have started when the owners were burning down an old shed and the embers caught fire on the nearby pole barn.

The fire quickly spread engulfing the barn and spreading to a nearby silo.

Fire crews were able to limit the damage to the silo but the barn was a total loss destroying equipment inside including a tractor and a boat.

Ringtown Valley Fire and Rescue Chief Joseph Gilbert said when they arrived, the attack was to surround and drown the fire.  No injuries were reported.

As of 7:30pm, crews were still at the scene putting water on the fire but members of the tanker task force were beginning to clear the scene.
