A fire destroyed an abandoned home in West Mahanoy near Shenandoah late Monday.

Just after 10:30pm, emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of 1193 West Centre Street, in West Mahanoy Township for a vehicle fire.

According to William Penn Fire Chief Christopher Miscannon, as crews arrived, they found a nearby abandoned home across from 1193 fully engulfed in flames.

Fire crews fought the fire defensively from the exterior as the single home collapsed and burned to the ground.

The fire completely destroyed the home and melted the siding of a modular home across the street.

Chief Miscannon didn't have information on the fire other than the cause was under investigation.
