Gilberton Bridge Expected Reopen Lanes in Both Directions Before Snowstorm

Crews were busy cleaning up Tuesday to reopen the northbound lanes of Route 924 on a bridge near Gilberton.

Since early 2019, a project has been taking place to replace the "Maizeville" Bridge on Route 924 between Frackville and Shenandoah.

The bridge traverses the Mahanoy Creek, Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad, and State Route 4030 (Main Street).

The southbound lanes were completed in 2019 and since early 2020, crews have been busy working on the northbound side.

While work was being done, traffic was down to one lane in both directions.

According to PennDOT, work crews began clearing barriers this week and installing a median to open both directions by Wednesday evening when a snow storm is expected to drop close to 2 feet of snow on Schuylkill County.

When cleanup is completed, both lanes will be open in both directions.
